Weekly Recycling

Starting January 12, 2005, all Rossford residents will be able to recycle WEEKLY. EACH WEEK, place your recyclables out with your refuse. Use the designated Recycling Bin for all recyclable materials.

The list of items that can now be recycled includes:

• Aluminum cans
• Cardboard
• Catalogs, magazines and phone books
• Chipboard (cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc.)
• Glass bottles and jars
• Newspapers and junk mail
• Plastic bottles and jugs
• Tin and steel cans

If you are not sure if an item goes in this bin, put it with your refuse or call the Waste Management Customer Service Center at 419-666-2640.

Refuse Collection - (Wednesday is the regular collection day)

For your weekly refuse collection, you are allowed to set out only three (3) containers per week. If you need to set out more than the three-container limit, you may purchase additional 30-gallon bags at the City's Municipal Building or The Pharm for $1.50 per bag. (These bags are generally sold in bundles of five or ten and contain the Waste Management logo.)

Please review the following information regarding your refuse collection:

• Place materials in their appropriate containers.
• Each pickup should consist of no more than three (3) containers with each container not to exceed 50 lbs, including the weight of the container itself.
• Don't overfill your containers.
• Place your containers at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup or no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
• You will be allowed one bulky item (couch, stove, mattress, chair, etc.) per week. If you have an item that contains freon (i.e. refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, etc.) the freon must be removed first prior to pickup and it must bear a sticker certifying that the freon has been removed.
• During the TWO weeks following Christmas, all residents will be allowed to set out unlimited amounts of residential refuse to help with the increase of waste generated during the holiday season. There will be no additional charge and no special Waste Management bags will be required. Waste must be placed in acceptable containers and not exceed the 50 pound weight limit.
• Concrete, asphalt, construction materials, etc. can never be collected with your refuse.

Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste collection is not included in your regular waste collection service. Waste Management offers yard waste collection services from April 1st through November 30th through direct subscription or by purchasing the Waste Management brown yard waste bags at The Pharm in Rossford or the City of Rossford Administration Building. Bags must have the Waste Management logo on them to be collected. (Generic bags will not be picked up by Waste Management.) The purchase price of $1.45 covers the costs of both collection and subsequent composting.

Materials that can be placed in yard waste collection bags include:

• Grass
• Leaves
• Garden Waste

Tree limbs will be collected if they are bundled and tied in four foot lengths, are not more than two feet in diameter and weigh no more than 40 pounds. Please mark the bundle for pickup by placing the Waste Management bag around or tied to the bundle with the Waste Management logo visible.

Christmas trees will be picked up as part of the normal collection service at no additional charge. You may set your tree out at the curb on your collection day the week following Christmas through the second week in January. Remove all ornaments and lights, cut the tree in 6-foot lengths and place the pieces next to your bin or bag at the curb.

Optional Yard Waste Program - No Waste Management Bag Required

Waste Management offers residents a subscription yard waste collection program available from April 1st to November 30th that allows you to use ANY generic yard waste bag. Call our Customer Service Center at 419-666-2640 to sign up for this service at a cost of just $10.00 per month. (You will still need to comply with the yard waste guidelines listed above.)

Because this program is not paid for by the City of Rossford, you will receive a monthly bill from Waste Management.

2005 Fall LEAF Collection

The annual leaf collection program will start in October, 2005 and will run through the entire month of November. During leaf collection, residents are reminded to place their leaves along the curb on improved streets and along the edge but not in the roadway on unimproved streets.  It is important that no other materials such as branches, bushes, and garden items be mixed with the leaves. Do not put leaves in plastic bags!
